How does CoolSculpting create fat loss?
CoolSculpting utilizes a patented process known as “cryolipolysis” to freeze and destroy fat cells, almost anywhere on the body. During CoolSculpting, targeted fat is placed between a pair of cooling panels and the the temperature is gradually lowered to below the freezing point of fat cells.
When the fat cells are frozen they quite literally are killed. The body’s natural elimination processes then flush the destroyed fat cells from the body over the next few weeks, just as it does with any dead cells that are no longer needed by the body.
How long is a CoolSculpting fat loss session?
Many of our Bend, OR patients only need to treat one area with CoolSculpting fat loss (such as the abs or belly), while other clients may desire to target multiple areas of stubborn fat in a single visit. So, the total time of an individual CoolSculpting fat loss session will vary from patient to patient – based on the size and number of the areas being treated.

CoolSculpting has been FDA approved to remove fat from almost every area of the body, except for the calves or ankles! However, for patients with larger or multiple treatment areas, and/or a larger amount of fat, more than one CoolSculpting fat loss treatment may be needed.

Is the fat loss from CoolSculpting permanent?
Yes! Once the fat cells are frozen during CoolSculpting, they are permanently destroyed and can never come back. This is because the human body does not have the ability to produce new fat cells. So, once they are killed and eliminated, the fat cells destroyed during CoolSculpting can never return in the treated area.
How long will it take to see the fat loss results from CoolSculpting?
Most men and women who get CoolSculpting will see visible fat loss as soon as 3 weeks after their first fat loss treatment. But because it can take several weeks for the body to completely eliminate the dead fat cells, the most dramatic CoolSculpting fat loss results are usually visible as early as 2 months after treatment – and will generally continue to improve over the next 6 months.
Does CoolSculpting fat loss hurt?
No! Because CoolSculpting is non-surgical and 100% non-invasive, it is completely pain-free. Unlike liposuction, there are no incisions, and CoolSculpting patients do not need anesthetic.
During the beginning of the procedure patients only experience a feeling of extreme cold, but the area quickly becomes numb and the cold sensation typically subsides in about 5 to 10 minutes. Depending upon the area(s) treated, patients may also experience some slight sensations of tugging, pulling, or mild pinching when the CoolSculpting handpiece is fitted to the treatment area.
Is there downtime or a recovery period after CoolSculpting?
Not really. In fact, many patients get CoolSculpting on their lunch hour, and return to work or normal daily activities immediately afterwards.
After their fat loss session, however, some patients may experience minor bruising, swelling, or tingling, as well as temporary pinkness or whiteness in the treated area. In very rare cases, some patients have also reported temporary tenderness in the treated area. But, these side effects only last for a few days, and no longer than a week.
